LONDON โ€” A World Cup themed game update made to Football Manager 26 now allows players to contact ICE authorities during a match and disrupt any bout. The landmark mechanic was introduced by Sports Interactive in their latest dev blog.

โ€œWhen Football Manager 26 launched, our most ambitious sports management simulator yet, we knew big things were ahead. We took a whole year off to finish work on the transition to Unity, overhauled a number of game systems, and the payoff is finally here. Starting today, FM26 will introduce Law Enforcement mechanics and Immigration Status Databases, compatible with both new and ongoing careers, creating a new level of immersion never seen before in sports games.โ€

The update has been controversial, to say the least. The discussions surrounding the ethical dilemma a mechanic like this brings to the table have been drowned out by a loud minority of professional players worried about how it will affect the meta.

โ€œThis is dogshit, quite frankly,โ€ said DribbleDeezBallz on X. โ€œThey already massively buffed the USA with the Trump Lobbying Network update, and now this? Every other team was nerfed to the ground by being vulnerable to this new mechanic. How am I supposed to know which team to pick now if the FIFA kickback system for Brazil, Germany and Italy could be invalidated by a single, well-placed phone call during a news conference or hydration break? Hard mode was already quite challenging with Iran after the Hormuz build dropped; now itโ€™s basically unplayable.โ€

Miles Jacobson, Studio Director and head of the video game development, met the backlash head on during an AMA.

โ€œThis is, first and foremost, a management simulator, and we know fans of the franchise appreciate our commitment to accuracy and how we keep it true to life. The thing is, life sucks. But life is always changing as well. Thatโ€™s why we at Sports Interactive are proud to announce FM26 will be partnering with Kalshi to produce an exchange & prediction market update. Expect more news soon!โ€

At press time, players have been reporting GPU driver crashes when trying to render all the NPCs at their teamsโ€™ designated ICE detention facilities.
