BELLEVUE, Wash. — After the successful launch of Marathon, Bungie has finally given fans a peek at what’s next for their extraction shooter with the announcement of the game’s first post launch art theft.

“It was a long road to get here, and we are so thrilled that everyone is enjoying the game. To keep up the momentum we are thrilled to announce what we have planned for the future of Marathon. Introducing our first post launch art theft,” excitedly exclaimed game director Joe Ziegler during a livestream. “While we know you all love the art we have in the game, it is technically no longer stolen. There’s so much more art out there that we can steal as we build out the world of Marathon. Many many art thefts are planned for the future, but we want to make this first one special and that’s why we’ll be stealing fan art. We want you all to be a part of Marathon’s future, unpaid for and uncredited of course.”

Art director Frank Palmer went into detail about the planned theft.

“The art team has been hard at work combing the internet to make note of any fan art we would like to steal,” Palmer said before sharing that he was personally foraging through Marathon Rule34 art pieces. “It was a slow process at first, but once we were able to filter out all the feet-focused art, we really started to find the good stuff. Luckily, most of you have not had the foresight to put watermarks on your art. Not that it would make a difference, but it does make it easier for us to rip you off when you don’t include it.”

Fans of the game reacted with nothing but excitement.

“This is so cool! Not only are they going right into post-game additions, but they’ll be adding our art to the game,” wrote user Footman365 on X – the Everything App. “Some people might say that it’s wrong for them to steal our art, but we should just be thankful that they think it’s good enough to put in the game. If we’re lucky then next, they’ll make the overpriced microtransactions cost even more.”

At press time Bungie revealed plans for a paid expansion that they will eventually remove from the game.
