BELLEVUE, Wash. โ Steam has announced a new feature for their big Summer Sale this month that will allow users to repurchase games already in their libraries at the same steeply discounted prices seen in 2011 Steam sales.
Longtime Steam users will fondly remember the heavy discounts seen for dozens of critically acclaimed games, and many PC gamers are already voicing their excitement for the chance to buy games they already own at a nostalgic bargain price.
โThis is honestly Valveโs best idea since that cute Steam delivery girl from a year or two ago,โ said user GamerGateTruther69 on the Steam subreddit. โWhile I liked the opportunity to see a woman actually smile at me outside of playing HuniePop, this oneโs a real gamechanger. You mean I can pay only $4 for Limbo, which has been sitting in my library at โ16 minutes playedโ for well over a decade? Thatโs a crazy good deal!โ
Not everyone is satisfied with this feature, though. Some PC gamers have expressed disappointment that a different year wasnโt chosen for this event that is not legally allowed to be called a โsaleโ.
โ2011 definitely wouldnโt have been my first choice to base the prices off of,โ wrote user SebastianIsBestBoyFightMe11 on X – the Everything App. โ2015 would have been a way better year to use. Skyrim was like five bucks then, and Iโll never pass up a chance to pay for that game again. Plus that would have been the perfect opportunity to bring us back to the year before everything went to shit in 2016 with, you knowโฆOverwatch.โ
Despite these criticisms, however, Valve president Gabe Newell is confident that the idea will appeal to the majority of PC gamers.
โWeโre calling itโฆโSteam Summer Rewind Rebuyโ,โ he told reporters between cigar puffs while wildly waving a cane on the deck of his $500 million yacht in an old-timey top hat. โItโs going to be big, I tell you, BIG! Gahahaha!โ
At press time, sources state that Valve allegedly plans for this feature to be the first part of their cryptically titled โPlease, for the love of God, PLEASE forget about the Steam Deck price increase and keep giving us money!โ marketing initiative.
