KYOTO, Japan – Dataminers digging through Pikmin made a shocking discovery earlier this week, when they uncovered references to a soundbite known as the “Pikmin Orgasm Noise” within the files of multiple games in the series. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto took a moment during the latest Nintendo Direct to explain the backstory behind the soundbite.

“It’s a common misconception that what you’re hearing when the Pikmin die is a death rattle,” Miyamoto said, staring solemnly into the lens of the camera. “There is no greater pleasure for the Pikmin than to die. They yearn for the release, be it either from being swallowed whole by a Bulborb or being thrown into a puddle by the sadistic Captain Olimar. A Pikmin may feel pain in the lead up to the death, but right at the end, the most pleasurable feeling is achieved, producing that now iconic sound we all know and love. The Pikmin then ejaculate and die.”

The Nintendo Direct moved on to the next big announcement of the event, before promptly being interrupted by Miyamoto, who continued on about Pikmin.

“You see that iconic whimper of joy, that was me,” Miyamoto said unprompted. “It’s the sound I make when I get to spend time in my garden. My garden brings me much joy. Pikmin is a love letter to my garden. If only everyone could feel the joy, I feel when I am gardening. Just talking about it makes me want to whimper.” 

Following the Nintendo Direct, dataminers are lamenting over the Pikmin revelation and reevaluating how they go about uncovering things.

“Maybe we don’t need to know every little detail about video games anymore,” Digital Gopher, a dataminer, wrote in a Bluesky thread. “Maybe we can just enjoy games at face value and stop rooting around trying to muck things up. As someone who will never play Pikmin again, I think I’ve learned my lesson. I just can’t get Miyamoto’s whimper out of my head. It’s ringing in my ears. It’s all I hear, even when I’m trying to sleep at night. Please make it stop. I’ll never data mine again. I promise.”

At press time, Miyamoto left Nintendo headquarters to spend the afternoon in his garden.
