FRESNO, Calif. – American singer-songwriter, Gary Jules, was taken into custody earlier today by police, after a short standoff outside of his California home. Jules, who has eluded authorities for well over a decade, faces one felony count of ruining movie trailers and influencing the use of moody covers in said trailers.

“Yes, the Mad World trailer for Gears of War was amazing and really set the mood for the game,” said Officer Riley Grooves, Jules’ arresting officer, and until recently, his biggest fan. “The Devotchka and Mazzy Star trailers were also good and a nice little homage to Jules’ moody influence on that original trailer. But then the movie trailers started using slow covers of fast songs. And it was just awful. And when I thought things couldn’t get worse, Gears 4 put out that trailer with the Disturbed cover of Simon & Garfunkel. At that moment, we knew we had to bring Jules to justice.”

Movie trailer fans celebrated the arrest. Influencer Paul Watchtower, who reacts to trailers for a living, is ready for Hollywood to begin its healing process.

“For too long, Hollywood has lived in the shadow of Gary Jules and his slow cover influence,” Hightower said in a recent YouTube essay video. “Sure, Hollywood pulls the trigger on greenlighting the covers, but Jules is just as responsible for supplying the influence. He needs to be held accountable for the Morbius and Transformers: The Last Knight trailers. I say give him the chair.”

Jules’ legal team were quick to call these charges “bogus” and are ready for his day in court.

“The prosecution has nothing. This is a thin case brought up by people who watch trailers for entertainment. As someone who avoids trailers, I can comfortably say that these charges are a joke,” said Frank Young, lead counsel for Jules’ defense team. “And if we’re being honest, Mad World isn’t a Gary Jules song. It’s a song featuring Gary Jules. So, if the prosecution wants to pursue charges against someone, they should look at Michael Andrews and not my client.”

At press time someone in Hollywood approved a slow cover of The Chain Smoker’s 2016 hit, Closer, to be performed by AJR.
