ROCKVILLE, Md. โ In honor of legendary actor Patrick Stewart, who passed away yesterday at the age of 86, Bethesda has announced it will be remastering the remake of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Todd Howard himself made the announcement in a video posted to Bethesda socials.
“Sir Patrick Stewart was famous for many roles over the years but to us he was a friend,” claimed Howard as he wandered Bethesda’s increasingly abandoned headquarters in a youth pastor ensemble. “Sure, his character in Oblivion was killed before the end of the tutorial and he never responded to any of my correspondence in the years since but it’s because he was busy not because we weren’t buddies. He was an integral part of making Oblivion successful and beloved enough for us to be able to go on to milk Skyrim. With that in mind we want to honor his legacy to this studio and gaming as a whole. To do that we will be remastering the Oblivion remake in an all new Patrick Stewart edition. Pre-orders are up now. It will feature no changes other than having a large image of Sir Patrick on the main menu and will cost $79.99.”
XBOX CEO Asha Sharma released a separate video statement later in the day talking about the new edition of the game.
“Sir Patrick is part of the history of XBOX. Sure, Oblivion came out before Bethesda was owned by us, but we own them now which means we own their history,” Sharma said before firing an employee who walked into frame. “When Todd came to me with the idea of releasing a remaster of the Oblivion remake in Patrick Stewart’s honor I was on board immediately. I mean why should we settle on only milking Skyrim. There are so many Elder Scrolls we can endlessly re-release while the sixth game stalls. And honoring such a beloved actor is a great deflection to all the layoffs.”
At press time, Bethesda has announced an Icon Outfit Pack DLC that allows you to dress Stewart’s character in outfits based on Professor X and Captain Picard during the few minutes he appears.
