The release of the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2 has gamers, in particular those of millennial age, ecstatic to revisit the treasured adventure of their childhoods. After all, who can resist the opportunity to play as Kokiri Forest native Link as he rescues Princess Zelda from the wretched Ganondorf? I, for one, would love to relive this experience, but my motives for anticipating the remake are far less selfish, as I believe it is a moral imperative that Link use his magical Ocarina of Time to kill baby Hitler.
I fully understand how difficult such a decision will be for Link. As a resident of Hyrule, he likely has not learned the true extent of the horrors inflicted upon the world by the megalomaniacal German chancellor, but ignorance of the man’s crimes is no excuse. Link is given access to this magical instrument that will grant him the Master Sword, which will allow him to move freely through time. How many residents of Earth would literally kill for this opportunity? It is incumbent upon our beloved Fairy warrior to do the right thing by temporarily putting his duties towards his beloved Princess aside by traveling backwards through time to 1889 and thrusting the Master Sword through the heart of this future genocidist, after which he will be free to return to his homeland to do as he wishes.
You may be asking yourself how Link will be able to warp from the Temple of Time to Northern Austria, and far be it from me to provide you that answer. I am not the one who has had this great responsibility bestowed upon him. It is up to Link to figure out how, exactly, he will carry out this most sacred of tasks, but he would be a moral thug if he didn’t do everything in his power to complete it. And he is not restricted to the use of the Master Sword to kill the vile infant. As long as the job gets done, Link is free to destroy the child with his slingshot, hookshot, Fairy Bow, Biggoron’s Sword, or boomerang. Hell, if he discovers that he’s able to travel with Epona, and chooses to use the horse to trample the child to death, I will have no contention so long as the job is carried through.
So, what will it be, Link? Are you going to perform your typical, ho-hum duties of saving Princess Zelda yet again, or are you ready to use your powers to do some actual good? The history books are full of good men who chose to do nothing in the face of evil, and it would behoove you to amend your plan, lest future generations see you simply as the man who could’ve stopped the architect behind some of the most shocking crimes against humanity the world has ever seen. It’s your choice.
